Set within 142 acres of private countryside, tucked away on the Southern slopes of Bodmin moor, yet around 30 minutes from both the north and south coast, The Wedding Barns are the perfect base from which to experience Cornwall. Originally founded as a monastery in the 1300’s and developed as a farm, the barns might be steeped in history -they’ve been in the same family for five generations - but they’ve been transformed into contemporary havens. Whether you’re looking for a get away from it all experience or an action-packed break, these barns occupy a stunning location in the heart of Cornwall.
Inside
- Style: Think luxurious living. A fusion of contemporary furnishings, log burners, underfloor heating and landscaped gardens combine with cool colours and sleek finishes. The stones used to build the monastery and barns were all quarried from the site.
- Layout: There are five barns; Sleeping 8 in four double bedrooms (three with en suite shower rooms), The largest barn and was built in the 1880s to thresh and store the summer corn harvest. Wagon is the smallest barn and has a double bedroom with bath and drench shower. Shippon, previously used for rearing young calves, has two double bedrooms that share a bathroom with drench shower. Stables, originally used for the horses, has two double bedrooms and a family bathroom with bath and drench shower. Historically, Granary would have formed part of the monastery corn store and 2 double bedrooms 1 luxury family bathroom with bath and drench shower
- For relaxation: There’s a spacious kitchen and dining space for up to 22 people in Threshing, which also has a spacious lounge area with log fire and 3-metre cinema screen; perfect for cosying up with the whole family of a winter's eve. Slide open the wall of panoramic windows during the summer months to really bring the outside in and make the most of summer evenings and al fresco dining. Each barn has its own relaxation area, complete with log fire and comfy sofas; perfect for those of you who want to escape from the group and have a little me time.
- For recreation: Whether you want to book a local band and dance the night away, Bull House lounge of the Threshing Barn is a dramatic room for any gathering.

Outside
Built under the brow of a hill, above a wooded valley and the River Loveny, there are far-reaching views to be enjoyed from all barns. Each barn has their own individual outside space. An indoor pool and spa are planned for 2009.
Food and Drink
- DIY: Taken on a self-catered basis, each property has its own kitchen if you want to cater independently of the group. The kitchen in Threshing has plenty of room for those of you looking to take on group catering. During the summer months, make the most of the view, a nightly BBQ is a must!
- In house cuisine: If you can’t face slaving over a hot stove, then choose from simply buffets to sumptuous sit down dinners created by local caterers. For special occasions we can arrange Cornish Hog Roasts, BBQs and even an ice cream van serving delicious locally made ice cream.
- Eating out: The village pub is a 20-minute walk from the barns
- By car: The barns are around five hours by car from London
- By train: The nearest train station is at Liskeard, which is around 20 minutes from the property
- By air: Newquay airport is around 45 minutes from the property
Out and About
- The owners can arrange everything from gourmet experiences to simply providing you with insider information in terms of walks in the local area.
- For those of you looking for a more extreme stay, then there are a whole host of activities from which to choose. Think cliff jumping in North Cornwall, canoeing on the River Fowey, or learning to surf
- If a round of golf is more your bag, St Mellion, St Enodoc and Lanhydrock golf clubs are within a short distance of the properties
- The Wedding Barns off-road cycle track is ideal for an early morning circuit; take in the ambience with just the local wildlife for company.
